Joyrider

Founded in November 2004 by Executive Producer Spencer Friend, Joyrider has made a name for itself tackling challenging spot and music video projects that combine live action, animation, and visual effects. Friend – whose production and management career spans more than 15 years – possesses a wealth of experience in these diverse disciplines. Prior to opening the company, he was a live action specialist producer as well as a senior animation producer in commercials and a VFX Producer/Supervisor in features and drama. Creative and technological innovation have been central to his pursuits, an ethic he brought to the formation of Joyrider Films.

The Joyrider Films roster is comprised of directors Reuben Sutherland, AixSponza, David Tomaszewski, Andras Ketzer, Adam Bizanski, Wade Shotter, and Mike Mort. Each of these directors brings a personal stamp to his work, complemented by a hands-on expertise in live action, 3D, VFX, stop frame, miniature set creation, design, and more.

The company recently produced spot and music video projects for Orange, PS3, BMW, T-Mobile, ING, Chevrolet, Eurostar, Flora, Keane, Wolf Parade, Doves, and Phoenix Foundation. Joyrider’s forray into new media includes interactive projects for VW via DDB London, and viewer research software development.

"We’re committed to cultivating a distinctive, funky and an influential community of directors spanning the technique and style spectrum," says Friend, whose company – not surprisingly – does nearly all of its live action and animation in house. "The stylistic landscape is constantly in flux…we are always endeavoring to pioneer new visual techniques crossing all kinds of boundaries. We have a unique skill set in tackling VFX and live action challenges and that allows us to provide a platform for innovation with our directors."

BEAU STUDIO:

On the corner of Art and Science

It’s late at night, and the only sound you hear is the buzzing of CPU fans…yet, somehow, your feet are planted in a world teaming with life. Monitors abound with visions of creatures leaping, speaking, devouring. The source: your imagination. The means: Beau Studio.

Founded in 2003 by acclaimed Creative Director/VFX Supervisor Beau Cameron, the company has amassed such diverse spot credits as Nike "Evolution" (Wieden and Kennedy), GMC/Chevy "One Big Family" (Campbell Ewald), Montana’s "Good Point" (riddochtelevision, Toronto), and, most recently, Partnership for a Drug-Free America "Dog" (Campbell Mithun, MN). Cameron also created a sequence for Spike Jonze’s Adaptation. 

"While it is wonderful to have a specialty, we believe our approach to the work is distinctive and unique to the Studio," says Cameron, a Pratt Institute grad who studied anatomy at Columbia University as part of his training. He describes his work as "science serving art," and indeed the company is currently at work on several technological innovations that will advance the medium. Additionally, Cameron points to the studio’s recent projects with inanimate objects functioning as characters as an example of its ever-expanding repertoire.

"We’re breathing life into whatever is on the screen," he explains, "and we’re marrying science, magic and creativity in the digital world."

In only his third year as a spot helmer, Nelson Cabrera is already extremely prolific, garnering numerous industry honors for his work. Showbound Naturals "Ping Pong" via, Grey Worldwide/NY, won a Silver Lion at Cannes, a Bronze at the New York Film Festival, a Suncoast Emmy Award, and a Mobius Award; his Mini-Cooper spots via Crispin Porter Bogusky earned him an ANDY, two Silver International Automotive Advertising Awards and was named a finalist at the London International Film Festival; Ford "True Love" via JWT was counted among Adweek‘s Best Spots of 2005.
