EXOPOLIS CREATES BOLD, NEW ‘REAL WORLD’ ON MTV
Gives Show's 18th Season Open a Rocky Mountain High
November 29, 2006 – For its 18th season, MTV's The Real World sought a bold new look while retaining the brand identity they had cultivated over the years. Creative studio Exopolis, whose recent credits include the iPod nano "Colors" spot, realized that vision. Created by reality television powerhouse Bunim-Murray Productions, the show chose Denver, Colorado, as this season's backdrop.
"Our approach combines editorial and motion graphics to create a dramatic look that still evokes the classic 'Real World' style," says Associate Creative Director Tosh Kodama. "We accomplish this by contrasting the show's two settings – the gorgeous Colorado outdoors and the fast-paced urban life of downtown Denver."
Natural elements act as transitional devices, as the show open whips from one cast member to another with dynamic camera moves. Choppy, treated
footage helps to evoke a raw feeling as the characters' personalities are introduced.
"We are thrilled to have collaborated with such an innovative studio," stated Joey Carson, CEO of Bunim-Murray Productions. "The technical direction Exopolis has implemented creatively reflects Denver's duality and provides a spectacular opening to one of our most captivating groups of housemates."
