Director, Creative Monster Productions
“I made my first Super 8 film when I was 5, and I was dyslexic, so in High School I made videos instead of term papers,” recalls director Mike Goedecke of his early start in filmmaking. “These included such hits as ‘Tijuana Vice’ and ‘The Old Man in the Pool,’ which were edited by hooking 2 VHS tape decks together.”
Hungry for more advanced technology, Mike got an Apple and began making animated movies with an early version of Director/Flash called Take 1. The films were seen around the world, uploaded to Bulletin Boards (BBS). He attended college at UCI, directing over 90 short films. This led him to the MFA program at USC, where he was chosen to direct an experimental documentary called “Rhythm.” The visually inventive film toured the world on the festival circuit.
Launching production company Belief in 1994, Mike helmed hundreds of commercials, promos, and Network Branding Packages, often working client ands network-direct, and delivering the creative as well. His spot clients include: Acura, Alltel, Budweiser, Honda, Lexus, Miller, Sony, and Virgin Mobile, to name a few.
Mike continues to direct experimental films, which are featured at festivals such as RES FEST, and in museums and galleries such as the LA GEFFEN MOCA. His long form short “Untitled:003-Embryo” (“shot on HD 24P before anyone knew what it was,” he notes) won numerous festival honors and is one of a handful of films sold through iTunes by Shorts International. Mike’s short “The Common Desk” has becomes an ad world favorite and has been featured on sites such as NEWSTODAY.com. He is set to direct the feature film “Artifact,” written by Jon Cohen (“Minority Report”), and “Placebo,” which Mike co-wrote with Brian Dodge and Kane Roberts (lead guitarist for Alice Cooper).
“Working with Scott Flor, who’s produced every kind of spot project imagineable, is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time,” says Mike. “And having owned a production company, I can appreciate the value the entire Creative Monster team brings to the equation.”
