Director, Creative Monster Productions
With his work for clients such as Samuel Adams and Blue Shield of California, Harry McCoy has established himself as a visual storyteller who frames strong performances within beautiful cinematography. Harry began his career in image-making at Boston advertising agency Ingalls Quinn & Johnson. Rising quickly through the ranks, first as an in-house editor and production assistant, Harry was soon promoted to producing spots for clients as diverse as TJ Maxx, Converse and Ocean Spray.
Harry jokes that his editing background and deep knowledge of film history “brought a unique perspective to a job that hardly needed it.” He next became Head of Production at Houston Effler/Herstek Favat, where he produced solid, award-winning work for the agency, simultaneously embarking on his career as a director.
In an effort to not repeat himself, Harry left the agency side and joined Picture Park (Boston/LA), where he directed numerous commercials and campaigns. His editing background has proved a valuable asset, with the rise of everybody-has-it-technology, and he is as inspired as ever to take it all to the next level. Although he has directed fashion, comedy, dialogue, green screen, music videos (Blue Man Group’s “I Feel Love,” among others), a feature, and several shorts, Harry has become known for his dedicated eye for finding the extraordinary in the commonplace, evident in his prolific career.
Harry co-wrote, produced & directed the dramatic feature Black & White & Red All Over, which was featured in competition at the Sundance Film Festival. He also co-wrote, edited and directed the comedy shorts “Gas Huffin’,” “Bad Gals!,” and “Pepper,” which have become festival staples worldwide.
“I admire Grant’s vision of what Creative Monster can be,” says Harry, whose current projects include spots for United Way and FIU. “My objective is to be the best ‘picture maker’ I can be, and this is the ideal place for me to pursue that goal.”
