George Wieser

Director/Cinematographer, Creative Monster Productions

George Wieser is a noted cinematographer whose work on documentary shorts, short subject narratives, and documentary-style commercials, show an eye that is sensitive and unerring. As he moves into directing, George brings a riotous style and intense, inventive storytelling to music videos, fine art films, and recent spot projects for Hoover and Target. He’s currently shooting a spot for newly launched mixadate.com.

A prolific artist with an extensive shooting reel, his recent collaborations and projects include “Heroes,” for CNN, “Wait Here,” directed by Gilly Barnes for the IFC Channel, and “Trifles,” directed by Ed Nammour and named Best Short at the Asheville International Film Festival. George’s other notable work includes lensing several installments of the ground-breaking “I Am An American,” a national public service campaign sponsored by the Advertising Council in the weeks following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and campaigns for Home Depot, Oxford Health, Advil, and the Coca-Cola “Soccer” campaign, which, in 2004, garnered the Clio Award for Best Documentary-Style spot.

A student of photographer Roy DeCarava, George’s photographs and portraiture of musical and fine artists have been featured in publications ranging from The New Yorker to Art Forum. His still lifes have been published in over 20 books on food and travel. Some of his more notable titles are “The New York Bartender’s Guide” (a best-seller) and “Culinaria USA,” which features regional specialties across the U.S., from the organic mid-western farmer to Alice Waters at Chez Pannise.

“The way the business is going all of the roles are being bundled in together, and I think Creative Monster really gets that,” says George. “This model saves time, and money. With the entire production and post team working together from the start, you have a much stronger end product.”
