Editor Nico Alba of bicoastal Union does justice not only to director Charles Stone III’s classic Wassup campaign for Bud, but to this fresh election ’08 spin, which offers commentary on the troubles its characters have seen since we first met them eight long years ago.
"Everyone knows that timing is the most important component in comedy," says Alba, "and the ‘True’ campaign created by Charles was no exception. In my opinion, though, it did something new. Its timing was retooled for our contemporaries."
Alba points out that visual evolution is easily identified as time marches on, "but with the initial campaign I was seeing something new in dialogue timing, and when I was asked to cut the latest installment of this iconic piece of ad history, I was very much taking this to mind."
Alba’s favorite moment in the new spot? "Definitely the screaming into the intercom in the hurricane scene. It just drives the message home. I think the message speaks for itself and I’m so glad we made this spot. But from an editorial perspective, the success of this project has always been about timing, and I believe we did a great job with it."
