THE VIRAL FACTORY Takes GI Jonny To War In The Fight Against HIV

THE VIRAL FACTORY has created, produced, and is seeding a new BBC-sponsored AIDS awareness ad designed to reach a mature audience of 18-25 year olds.

Since its launch last week, the viral film has helped to drive over 5 million hits to the GI Jonny website, and externally the film has racked up over 1.2 million views and counting.

Directed by James Rouse with THE VIRAL FACTORY, and animated with action hero figures, the toy commercial parody stars ‘GI Jonny’ and ‘Captain Bareback’ and uses over-the-top behavior to drive home the need for safe sex.

The intentionally outrageous spot is already causing a stir in London, where one parents group labeled it "disgusting." A BBC spokeswoman responded to the uproar, saying: "GI Jonny is an interactive online campaign designed to target young heterosexuals who are at increased risk of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections."

The campaign was created by BBC Learning with the sexual health charity Terence Higgins Trust.
