Director-Animator-Designer, Joyrider
For Hungarian-born Andras Ketzer, filmmaking’s greatest pleasures are in exploring new techniques and contstantly challenging himself to kick it up a notch. The 28-year-old director, animator, and designer has always been inspired by old-school technologies dating back to the early Commodore 64 computer graphics styles (even belonging to an underground club of Commodore enthusiasts).
On a constant R&D quest for new visual techniques, Ketzer pushes for innovative ways to use live action, photography, design, 3d, stop-frame, and…ferrous metal engineering? Indeed, Ketzer did just that for Hyundai, and he has become an invaluable resource for agencies and labels seeking insight regarding nontraditional visual approaches.
Bounding into the future is no reason to forsake the past, as "Spiralling," his popular music video for Keane, attests. Ketzer has also garnered attention with Le Trippin, a tribute to rock and roll music, which he made as he migrated to the land of electronic. The short is about Ketzer’s travels from ‘Sun Street’ in the capital to the countryside with friends, and the dodgy 2nd-class trains that used to get them to there. The old trains represent a feeling of comfort that he expressed through the warm designs, colours and reddish shades. Not surprisingly, Ketzer shot, edited and animated the entire film. And true to form, he’s out there now, pushing the envelope, creating – and delivering – something new to audiences everywhere.
